This is the real decision for anyone running auctions. Aggregators like HiBid bring you an existing audience, and for a small house that traffic is genuinely valuable. But you’re renting it: bidders register with the portal, the portal owns the relationship, and you pay per listing indefinitely.
Running your own platform reverses that. It’s more work upfront and you supply your own marketing, but the bidder list becomes an asset you own. Most houses that make the switch do it once repeat bidders outnumber new ones, because at that point the portal is mostly charging you to reach people who already know you.
