Uber made getting a ride effortless: open the app, tap a button, someone shows up. So it’s natural to ask this: where’s the Uber of cleaning services?
Because we have to have that, we have uberified any type of service by now.
An app where you tap “clean my apartment,” a vetted cleaner arrives in an hour, and payment happens automatically? A dedicated app of course
The short answer: several apps come close, but no single platform owns cleaning the way Uber owns rides. And that gap, as we’ll see, is exactly why maid service apps remain one of the most attractive marketplace niches to build in.

The Contenders
Handy is the closest thing to an Uber of cleaning. Fixed upfront pricing, background-checked cleaners, instant booking, and recurring subscription plans made it the category leader in the US and UK. But it’s strongest in big metros and has faced its share of complaints from both customers and cleaners.
TIDY takes an automation-first angle — it’s as much a smart scheduling tool as a marketplace, letting homeowners (and especially Airbnb hosts) set up recurring cleanings that run on autopilot.
Homeaglow grew fast with aggressive introductory pricing, connecting customers with independent cleaners at rates that undercut the traditional franchises.
TaskRabbit and Thumbtack both cover cleaning as one category among many. TaskRabbit offers hourly Taskers on demand; Thumbtack sends your request to local cleaning pros who compete for the job — a model with well-known trade-offs for the pros, which we unpacked in our article on whether Thumbtack is worth it.
And beyond these, there’s a long tail of regional apps and old-school franchises like Molly Maid taking bookings online.

So Why Is There No True “Uber of Cleaning”?
Three reasons keep the throne empty.
Cleaning is a relationship, not a transaction.
A ride ends in twenty minutes; a cleaner is in your home for hours, near your valuables, often every week. Customers who find a cleaner they trust want that cleaner back — which fights against the anonymous, interchangeable-supply model that makes Uber work. Many customers actually use apps to find a cleaner once, then book directly and cut the platform out.
The market is intensely local.
Supply, pricing, and trust are all city-by-city. A platform that dominates Los Angeles has zero advantage in Lisbon. That’s why the space is fragmented into dozens of regional winners instead of one global one.
Quality is hard to standardize.
Uber rides are roughly identical; cleanings aren’t. Managing quality across thousands of independent cleaners is expensive, and the platforms that skimp on it bleed customers.
The Opportunity Hiding in That Answer
Here’s the flip side: because no one owns the category, local is where the money is. A cleaning marketplace focused on one city or region — with properly vetted cleaners, fair terms, and a rebooking feature that lets customers keep their favorite cleaner inside the platform — solves exactly the problems the big apps haven’t.
And technically, it’s very achievable. The feature set of a maid service app (profiles, booking calendars, quotes, payments, reviews, admin panel) is the same core we’ve described for handyman platforms, and it can be launched with WordPress — we’ve covered the approach for both a Thumbtack-style quote marketplace and an hourly TaskRabbit-style platform.
The same stack powers a cleaning marketplace with nothing more than different categories and branding.
At SiteMile we build these platforms every week — from ready-made service marketplace themes to fully custom builds with native mobile apps. If a cleaning marketplace is on your mind, take a look at our handyman app development services or get in touch for a quote.
